The world production of biodiesel is estimated at 6.3 million tons in 2006, with Europe producing 77% of this amount (4.9 million tons). European biodiesel production is expected to grow to above 10 million tons in 2010 representing a market value of 8.5 billion €. Currently, the U.S. and Brazil biofuel market is dominated by bioethanol. Production of biodiesel in the U.S. attained 836,000 tons in 2006, with expectations to a significant rise up to 4 million tons in 2010. At present, there are approximately 200 fully operating biodiesel plants in Europe, with tens of additional plants under construction.
